What is Gastric Bypass Surgery?

Gastric bypass surgery is the most preferred surgery for losing weight in our country and in the world.The life-threatening rate during surgery is around 1-2 percent.The logic of surgery is to open a short cut in the digestive tract and deliver the food to the end without being completely digestedSurgery also has features such as reducing appetite with mechanical and hormonal effects and accelerating the feeling of hunger

There are basically two things to do here; The first one is restricting the excess eating of the patient; second one is to prevent the patient from taking advantage of some of the food.During these surgeries, a tube with a capacity of 30 or 50 CC is made from the stomach. On the other hand, a certain section of the duodenum and the beginning of the small intestine is closed to the food passage, thereby ensuring that the patient does not benefit from the food being eaten.

The patients will lost 85-90 percent of their weight in a year time. At the same time, if the patient is diabetic, diabetes is controlled. If there is sleep apnea syndrome , blood pressure, he may recover after this surgery.

There are two types of gastric bypass surgery;

First Roux-Y Gastric Bypass

Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery is one of the most effective surgeries in obesity surgery. In this surgery for weight loss, the stomach is minimized by a closed method in a laparoscopic manner. One of the major surgical treatment methods for obesity is a restrictive factor in this operation. The absorption is also reduced.

The stomach is reduced by stapling method. We should install the stomach at the beginning of the small intestine. We do this by stapling.

Second Mini Gastric Bypass

A long thin tube is made into the stomach. The whole of the stomach is not taken out of the abdomen,

This tube is recombined from about 200 centimeters of the small intestine. The patient’s diet is thus restricted. On the other side, the small intestine of 200 centimeters is closed to the food passage so that the patient cant benefit some of the nutrients.

These two operations are performed by laparoscopy with closed methods. The patient stays around 3 to 5 days in hospital. In this surgery, effective and permanent weight loss is achieved.

The disadvantages of these surgeries are; the patient may need vitamins and minerals in the long term. The part of the stomach that remains inside the stomach can not be displayed with the endoscope.
